Swivel Secure the pioneer in tokenless, multi-factor authentication technology has been named as a finalist in both the Identity and Access Management Solution of the Year and the Remote Access Solution of the Year categories at the this year’s Computing Security Awards.
The Computing Security Awards honour the products and services that have made a positive contribution to making organisations more secure. These will be the only awards to recognise excellence in IT security where the winners will be determined by the democratic process of on-line nominating and voting.
Swivel’s PINsafe® multi-level, multi-factor authentication platform was developed in the UK and the first to use SMS and mobile apps in place of a dedicated user ID token to confirm the online identity of remote network users. Now incorporating a range of strong and two-factor user interface options as well as an app for the Apple iPhone, PINsafe is widely used by all types of organisations to provide added security for all major VPN solutions as well as Cloud based applications including Google Docs, Salesforce CRM and Microsoft 365.
The winners of the Computing Security Awards will be announced at the annual awards dinner on November 3rd in London.

In recent months, even the largest corporations including MasterCard, RSA and Sony have had difficulty defending themselves against targeted data attacks from ‘hacktivist’ groups such as Anonymous and Lulzsec. The importance of ensuring sensitive corporate data is kept secure has never been more clearly illustrated; getting it wrong can result in significant reputational and financial losses.
At the same time, there has been a significant rise in the popularity of cloud-based customer relationship management (CRM) and other corporate applications such as Google Docs and Salesforce CRM. This has led many companies to devolve responsibility for the security of their data to the cloud application’s user access infrastructure which, from a technical perspective, can quite often be insufficient – particularly when only a password and username is required to access critical data stored within an application, which is the typical, out-of-the-box, default solution.
IT security expert and VP Engineering at Swivel Secure, Chris Russell, offers some advice for management teams wishing to lock down access to their company’s cloud applications, and the critical data they hold, to authorised individuals only, so that they can lever the many benefits offered by cloud-based services.
